April update
Ran the ASICS Breakfast Run this morning and was very pleased to win the 8.2 mile race in 47:50 ahead of Emma Wilson's 52:07. A bit on the cool side and breezy but a great run on home turf.
December update
Been racing again, just can't stop myself!!! This Sunday I raced the Bicester 10k and won!!! Another low key event but great for training: I didn't have too much competition from the women so I used the
men in this mixed race to protect me from the chilly wind and fog, we couldn't
see 50m in front of us for most of the time! No sign of any injuries and I'm
feeling fitter and stronger every race!!!!
November update
Well, it looks like the injury I picked up is under control. Friday 18th saw me winning the Hyde Park 5k. Although it's only a fairly low key race with around 400 people raced taking part and even though I'm not even half fit I felt strong and it was great to be running injury free again!
October update
I spent last Sunday working for Channel Five, commentating with Geoff Wightman on the Great South Run! It was an amazing day mainly spent interviewing the fun runners who were all racing for charities. It was long day though as it started in Portsmouth at the race venue at 0800 and then ended in the recording studies in London at 2200. Great fun and experience -- but overall I think racing is easier!
At the moment I've had to take a bit of a break to fix an injury. Things are improving and if all goes well I think I should be running again by next week. Luckily any thought of sneaking in a run too soon is not likely to happen as I have picked up the annual flu bug. After this unexpected rest I know I will be raring to go again as soon as possible!
Annie wins world duathlon series
A far from easy run up to the ITU World Duathlon Championships (also the last race in the world series this year ) meant I had a tough challenge to hold on to the number one spot. Thankfully though a 4th place was enough to hold on to the series and finish number one in the world this year!!! My training was close on being 100% perfect up until four weeks out when I picked up a small injury to my hip and then on top of that I had to head off to Australia for my final two weeks preparation with a stomach virus!!! I decided though that I wasn't going to give up my number one spot that easily and was determined to make the start line. I continued with my training whilst receiving some intensive physio treatment in Brisbane. Although very disappionted not to make the podium, winning the series and finishing number one in the world was a fantastic result after a challenging last few weeks!!! My next race is on the 31st October, I will be racing the Adidas Dublin marathon.
Sep-24: I'm currently out in Australia for the World Duathlon Championships. The race is on Sunday but you can follow it online late on Saturday night on the ITU website.
Aug-08: I was in Spain for the weekend where I took part in an 8k road race. Conditions were very hot -- 35 degrees -- but I won by 25 seconds beating a South American girl.
Aug-01: I won a Triathlon!!!! Did give them a bit of a head start on the swim but biked and ran like a demon ( especially after a really tough week of training and no rest before the race). The race was part of the Swiss national circuit and it was in Solothurn. The website is www.trisuisse.ch and there is a nice pic of me at the finish.
Jul-29: I will be racing a triathlon this weekend for the first time since 2002! It is part of the Swiss National circuit but this does not mean that I have decided to take up triathlon again -- even though I will also be doing the Monaco Half Ironman on the 4th September as well. If this seems a bit strange it's just that there are no duathlons other than Zofingen, which I don't fancy, so I don't have any choice as I don't want to arrive in OZ under-raced.
Jul-22: Just back from the first ITU World Cup Duathlon which was held at Corner Brook
and there's a silver medal to display in the trophy cabinet! A hard race, but
a great result and, because of the Bronze at the World Long Course, I now head
the World Duathlon rankings!
After getting a Bronze medal at the World Long Course Duathlon champs I'm
pretty pleased with the way that the year has started! I will be heading to Switzerland
soon to train with AJ and Lisbeth in preparation for the Corner Brook duathlon,
the Duathlon World Champs in Australia and then an autumn marathon in Dublin
-- a pretty packed year! |
